An inventor’s studio
Goldsmith Eline van der Laag (1976) had a gallery in Amsterdam with her company MOYA. The contact with customers is great fun, but it also keeps her from what she loves most: playing with materials and inventing. She makes gold jewelry with movement and secret messages or hiding places. She first plays with the material or her thoughts and eventually designs a piece of jewelry in which diamonds or pearls are not fixed, but can simply move. And you don’t lose them while playing with them, because she comes up with ingenious closures for that.

The tuning bracelet proves that something that happens from an accidental knock against a table can become a special bracelet. An aluminum bracelet with which musicians can tune their instruments. And not just any musician: Eline gave it to her great idol Stevie Wonder and was allowed to put it on his wrist herself.

In Eline’s studio, Hester Wandel learns that inventing is also about seeing possibilities when something doesn’t go as you would like. It is about designing but also fulfilling a desire to have children, while you are alone. Not giving up, but investigating what is possible and enjoying what happens.

You can speak to Eline herself and view her jewelry during the exclusive jewelry fair Juwelen aan de Vecht on June 21 and 22 in Loenen aan de Vecht.
The exhibitors are: Maarten Versteeg, Cécile van Eeden, Eve Sparkles, Hester Vonk Noordegraaf, U & I, MOYA, Sharon Manassen and Galerie Bonnard.
